| Other Info | George and Michael have been collaborating for several years, performing as a duo, as part of BIG MIX, their band with Doors organist Ray Manzarek, and in their commissioned work Double Moire for Jazz Trio and Poet Michael McClure, a founding member of the Beat Generation, gave his first poetry reading at age 22 at the legendary Six Gallery event in San Francisco, where Allen Ginsberg first read "Howl". Today McClure is more active than ever, writing and performing his poetry at festivals, colleges and clubs across the country. Michael has received numerous awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, an Obie Award for Best Play, an NEA grant, the Alfred Jarry Award, and a Rockefeller grant for playwriting. McClure has written twenty plays and musicals which are performed in the U.S. and abroad. His most recent two collections of poetry are Mysteriosos and Other Poems (New Directions ) and Of Indigo and Saffron: New and Selected Poems (University of California Press, 2010). |
